Jenabah has been studying a variety of dance styles for 35 years, and teaching to students of all ages for more than two decades. She began at a young age studying ballet and tap. Soon there after, her focus turned towards jazz and hip-hop. 

 

During high school, Jenabah performed and competed with the varsity dance team for 4 years and earned the role of captain as a senior.  Their team consistently received high rankings in regional and national dance competitions.   In 1992,  She was first runner up for “Miss Michigan Dance”. In 1993, She performed and taught for Universal Dance Association, a dance company that travels nation wide teaching high school dance teams choreography, technique and more. Jenabah also taught for Creative Dance Arts, School of Dance in Tucson, AZ for 7 years. During this time, she was introduced to dance styles from different cultures while performing with Domba Tribal Belly Dance at the Arizona Renaissance Festival. Intrigued by music and dance of the African Diaspora and Tribal Style Belly Dance, she began her path of studying world dance with master dance instructors from East and West Africa, Cuba, Brazil, as well as the United States. In 2006, Jenabah traveled abroad to study music and dance in Guinea, West Africa and later was afforded the opportunity to teach Tribal Style Belly dance workshops in Barcelona, Spain. 

 

Jenabah performed for 15 years at Renaissance Festivals in Michigan and Arizona where she was a principal dancer for Domba, Tribal Belly Dance and Nommobugunte, a world drum and dance troupe founded by her and her husband. She performed with an African drum and dance troupe: Like Water Drum and Dance from 2003 – 2007 contributing creative choreography and costume designs. In 2006,  she opened the doors to the Tree of Life Cultural Arts Studio, a center that offered unique classes, workshops, dance parties and performance opportunities to the community of Chelsea, MI and surrounding areas. During this time, Jenabah was the primary choreographer, costume designer and director of Tribal Roots Fusion Bellydance and Tree of Life Drum & Dance Society. 

 

Jenabah continues her journey of dance as a mover and choreographer with Tableau Cadre Movement Ensemble, and has recently been given the title of  “Dance Captain”.
