RACHEL BOMPRHAY
Rachel Bomphray started out as a tiny gymnast, only to injure herself on the vault at age 11. She thought that was the end of her career as a movement-artist, but secretly she dreamed of dancing. At the oh-so-old-age of 15, Rachel was convinced by a teacher at her school that she was not too old to start dancing, and thus began her love affair with dance.
After finishing college with a degree in English and Psychology, Rachel moved to California and found herself (to her surprise) teaching dance in elementary and middle schools and dancing in two modern dance companies, Dance Theater Shannon, and The Rooftop Dance Collective (the latter founded by her and two of her friends).
Now, back in Michigan and pursuing a career in teaching high school English, Rachel was lucky enough to find herself a member of an African dance company, Tree of Life Dancers, and one of the Ragdolls in Erin Morris and Her Ragdolls, a vintage jazz company. Both of these groups made it their mission to work with live musicians and Rachel found this relationship between dancers and musicians to be one of the most powerful she had ever experienced.
With the dissolution of both of those companies, she is now excited to join the Tableau Cadre Movers and can't wait to see what physical, mental, and spiritual discoveries the company will bring her in the months and years to come!
